Safety

A confined space is a place which is substantially enclosed (though not always entirely), and where serious injury can occur from hazardous substances or conditions within the space or nearby (e.g. lack of oxygen).

When working with confined spaces, you should adhere to the following  guidelines:

• avoid entry to confined spaces, e.g. by doing the work from the outside;
• if entry to a confined space is unavoidable, follow a safe system of work; and
• put in place adequate emergency arrangements before the work start

Althon Ltd is able to offer a wide range of safety and confined spaces equipment for both sale and hire. Gas detectors, 10 minute escape sets, tripod and winch sets and body harnesses are all delivered fully tested and with calibration certification.

Gas Detectors

These units are used to ensure that the air in a confined space is safe to work in before entry is made into the area, observing the first rule of confined spaces working, “avoid entry where possible”.
