SEL Permafoam® is the latest development in the field of sustainable drainage systems (SUDS). This innovative product brings together the best properties of two existing technologies. The first is the high strength, highly voided Permavoid® structural void former. The second is open cell foam with exceptionally high water retentive capabilities and similar to the biological make-up of plant stem cell structure. In an unconfined condition, the foam is friable and prone to damage and attrition. The foam’s vulnerability is effectively overcome by placing the foam within a SEL Permavoid® unit.
The resultant SEL Permafoam® unit can be strategically placed within a Permavoid® structure utilising the available water to charge the SEL Permafoam® to its full 80% water storage capacity. Water is then released over time to satisfy the requirements of the planting.
Incorporating planting schemes within SUDS designs will not only provide a more pleasant environment it will also reduce the amount of water discharged from the site and help to further replicate the natural catchment.
